Phillies Acquire Roy Oswalt from Astros for JA Happ and 2 prospects

The Phillies got their man yesterday getting 32 yr old RHP Roy Oswalt from the Astros for LHP JA Happ, OF prospect Anthony Gose and INF prospect Jonathon Villar. The 32 yr old was 6-12 with a 3.42 era but he got no run support from the Astros. Roy Oswalt waivied his no trade clause and said he wanted to be here. The deal gives the Phillies one of if the not the best rotation in baseball with Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, Cole Hamels,Blanton and Kendrick. Oswalt will start tonight vs the Washingtion Nationals.

Breaking News Phillies and Astros Have Deal In Place For Oswalt

A report late Wednesday said the Astros had agreed to send Roy Oswalt to the Phillies, pending Oswalt's approval. The deal was to include the Astros trading Roy Oswalt for JA Happ and prospects. Sources say the Astros will pay some off Oswalt's salary. More coming when available.

Polanco Back From DL, Castro Gone

Infielder Placido Polanco has been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list, and have released INF Juan Castro. Castro, 38, hit .198 with 13 RBI in 54 games this year the Phillies lost his job as backup when Wilson Valdez stepped up. As for Polanco he is hitting .318 with 15 doubles, five home runs, 27 RBI and 39 runs scored.

Report: Flyers Sign Right Wing Nik Zherdev

According to sources the Flyers have signed right winger Nik Zherdev. Zherdev 25, was playing with the Atlant Moscow Oblast in Russia. Zherdev has played in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers he had 23 goals with the Rangers in 2008-2009.

Halladay,Howard, and injured Utley Named NL All Stars

The Phillies have 3 All-Stars with Roy Halladay,Ryan Howard and the injured Chase Utley being named to the All Star Game in Anaheim. Utley was named a starter but won't play due to injured thumb.

Breaking News Utley Out 6-8 Weeks

Chase Utley will be out at least 6-8 weeks. Utley injured his thumb sliding into second base on Monday, will need surgery to repair a torn ligament. This is a big blow for the Phillies.

Breaking News Flyers Get Andrej Meszaros In A Trade, Resign Coburn and Sign O'Donnell and Shelley

The Flyers have traded for Tampa Bay defenseman Andrej Meszaros in exchange for a 2012 2nd rounder. Meszaros had 6 goals and 17 points last year. This could be one of those change you scenery trades like the Matt Carle trade in the 2008-09 season. Meszaros, is due 4 million next year. They have also resigned D-Man Braydon Coburn, signed defense man Sean O'Donnell and winger Jordan Shelley so far.
