Phillies Win Opener 5-4 on Mayberry RBI Single
Oh what way to open the 2011 season. Roy Halladay pitched well going 6 innings striking out 6 and only giving up 1 run he was taken out after the 6th inning after his pitch count was up to 101. The Astros pitcher Brett Myers the former Phillies pitcher pitched well going 7 innings giving up 3 hits and only surrenderers one earned run. Lets fast forward to the bottom of the 9th inning when the Astros brought in closer Brandon Lyon. Jimmy Rollins gets a single,Ryan Howard gets a single, Raul Ibanez pops up to second, Ben Francisco gets a RBI single with Jimmy Rollins scoring to make it 4-3 and Ryan Howard moving up to second, Carlos Ruiz gets a single to load the bases, Wilson Valdez gets tying run in on a RBI single, then John Mayberry comes up to pitch hit and he its a game winning RBI single to center field over the head of Micheal Bourn to win the opener. Danys Baez gets the win and Brandon Lyon gets the loss. What a way to get the first victory in front of 45,237 at Citizens Bank Park. Tonight is Cliff Lee's 2011 season debut and his first start at Citizens Bank Park since Game 5 of the 2009 World Series against the Yankees. The first pitch is scheduled at 7:05 pm
