Roy Halladay Wins Cy Young

Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay has won his 2nd CY Young Award in a landslide vote getting all 32 first place votes. Halladay who the Phillies acquired in December pitched a perfect game in Florida in May. The 33-year-old right-hander, led the majors in wins (21) as he went 21-10, shutouts (4), complete games (9) and innings pitched (250 2/3). He also finished second in the NL with 219 strikeouts and was third with a 2.44 ERA - the second lowest of his 13-year big league career (2.41 in 2005). Halladay also had the 2nd no hitter in postseason history even though it does not matter to the voters as the votes are due in on the last day of the season. Adam Wainwright of St.Louis was 2nd. Halladay is also the fifth pitcher to earn the honor in both leagues.

A couple of days after signing Claude Giroux the Flyers have again signed one big pieces. Today the Flyers sign Jeff Carter to 11 year 58 million dollar deal. Jeff Carter 25, who the Flyers made the 11th overall pick in the 2003 has scored 153 goals and 138 assists totaling 291 points. Should Roy Halladay be 2010 Sportsman of The Year?

According to a article on Philly.com, Sports Illustrated writer Jack McCullum has nominated Roy Halladay for SI's annual Sportsman of The Year. Roy Halladay in my mind should be the Sportsman of The Year because no one else in sports has had the year that Roy Halladay has had even though the Phillies did not win the World Series. Roy Halladay who went 21-10 with a 2.44 era,he had 9 complete games and 4 shutouts in over 250 innings. He became the first Phillies pitcher to pitch perfect game since Jim Bunning,first to win 20 games for the Phillies since Steve Carlton,and became the only the second player in MLB history to pitch a no-hitter in the playoffs since Don Larsen and he did that in his first start in the playoffs ever.Then he goes to win Game 5 of the NLCS after pulling a groin in the 2nd inning But off the field he is even more deserving to win the award he is always the first Phillie at park and last to leave. He is also the ultimate team player after his Perfect Game he gave everyone a watch that said "We did this together." There are no more deserving athletes in my mind then Roy Halladay.

Phillies Off Season Question Number 1 Can They Keep Jayson Werth?

The biggest question by far for the Phillies in the 2010-11 off season is will they keep outfielder Jayson Werth. The answer is probably no he wants way to much money for the Phillies. The Phillies also think if they go cheap with a platoon in right field they might get another front line starter. The platoon would involve rookie Dominic Brown with a possible partner in Aaron Rowand,Matt Diaz,and Jeff Francouer also don't count out the Phillies looking at Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher.
