Phillies Advance To Third Straight NLCS Behind Hamels Complete Game Shutout

The Phillies win game 3 of the NLDS behind Cole Hamels complete game shutout. The Phillies got their first run of the game on a Orlando Cabrera throwing error of the bat of Carlos Ruiz scoring Placido Polanco. They got their second run of the game on Chase Utley's tenth career home run moving him above Jayson Werth on the club's all time list. That's all Cole Hamels would need as he pitched his first postseason complete game shutout giving up five hits and striking out nine. The Phillies let up only eleven hits to the best offense in the regular season in this series the fewest ever. Cole Hamels is the third pitcher to 20 years to earn a shutout victory in a postseason road series clincher. The Phillies will have to wait until at least tomorrow night to find out who they will face in Game One of the NLCS on Saturday, they will face either the San Fransisco Giants or the Atlanta Braves the Giants lead the series 2-1. When they do play on Saturday Roy Halladay will have ten days off he had eight days off in between clinching the division against the Nationals and the no hitter in Game one of the NLDS.
